I’ll be honest here. I have almost no motivation to write this post. So if this seems really meh, that’s because it is.
Modesty is not just a set of dos and don’ts. It’s a heart attitude. It’s respecting your body as a temple for the Spirit. It’s being careful not to turn yourself into a sexual object. It’s a hot topic currently because of the wildly inappropriate Super Bowl half-time show. Yes, Adam Levine’s was inappropriate too. Yes, it’s their(Shakira and JLo’s) culture. But as believers we do not measure right and wrong by our cultures. We measure it with God’s Word.
If you are dressing to attract a man, you’re sinning. We are called to dress modestly, they are called to respect us. If one doesn’t do their job, that doesn’t mean the other gets a free pass to disobey God’s Word. This doesn’t mean we can’t dress nicely in a way men will find attractive. It simply means our motivation should not be to cause a man to sin by lusting over us. We don’t have to dress like we’re Amish. Dressing immodestly demonstrates a lack of self-respect. If you’re dressing to reveal your body, you’re demonstrating what you think your most valuable asset is. If you are being overtly sexual, for a man or for yourself, you are sinning. A quick look at what the Bible says about sex and modesty reveals that sort of sexuality is perversion and hated by God.
This is all I’ve got right now. I may update later, and I will announce it on social media if I do.
